Meet Antoine

The astrophotographer behind the Galactic Course

Antoine Grelin is a French-American astrophotographer and is one-half of Galactic Hunter. Along with his wife Dalia, Galactic Hunter offers astrophotography tutorials, guides, gear reviews, and complete courses for all levels of skill and equipment.
Galactic Hunter images have been featured in NASA publications, Astronomy Magazine, BBC, and PBS Television, and have been recognized with awards from APOD, Flickr Explore, AAPOD2, and more.

From the Desert to the Galactic Course

Antoine Grelin's astrophotography journey began in 2015 with binoculars outside Las Vegas. A first telescope and camera followed, then many clear nights spent learning under the desert sky. In 2016, Antoine and Dalia launched Galactic Hunter to share what they were learning through videos, photographs, and written guides.

Antoine became a full-time astrophotographer in 2019. He later created the Galactic Course to bring his imaging experience, processing workflows, and teaching together in one place.

Teaching From Real Imaging Experience

Antoine's experience in astrophotography includes imaging from both his highly light-polluted Las Vegas backyard, and from the dark desert skies surrounding the city. He's also used to operating remote telescopes of all kind. Those different conditions help him explain what you can do with the setup and skies you have.

At the Galactic Course, you can learn deep sky imaging, PixInsight processing, Milky Way photography, star trails, remote imaging, smart telescope workflows, and much more with Antoine's straight-to-the-point teaching style and easy to follow lessons.

You can also follow his tutorials and equipment reviews on Galactic Hunter on YouTube.

Astrophotography, Published and Recognized

Antoine’s work with Dalia has been recognized by NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day and published in astronomy magazines and other media. His portfolio includes galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, comets, and wide-field views of the night sky.

NASA selected their Blue Horsehead Nebula image on September 26, 2023, and their Horsehead and Orion Nebulas image on September 10, 2024.

Antoine and Dalia also contributed to the Deep Sky Collective’s "Cosmic Coincidences" image, the Galaxies category runner-up in the 2025 Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition.

Galactic Hunter’s images and work have appeared in Astronomy Magazine, BBC Sky at Night, and PBS Outdoor Nevada to name a few. You can see some of the individual publications and dates in the Galactic Hunter awards and publications archive, which was kept updated until it became too much!

Author of Astronomy & Astrophotography Books

Antoine’s teaching also takes the form of books you can keep beside your telescope or use while planning your next night under the stars.

The Astrophotographer’s Guidebook brings together 60 deep sky targets, organized by season, with imaging advice, photographs, and information to help you choose what to capture next.

His other titles include The Constellations Handbook, The Messier Catalog Workbook, The Astrophotographer’s Journal, and The Stargazer’s Journal. They offer different ways to learn the night sky, plan observations, and keep track of your progress.

These books  all have excellent reviews on Amazon. They complement the Galactic Course, giving you references and places to take notes as you build your own experience.

Why I Created the Galactic Course

I’ve spent years learning, practicing, and teaching astrophotography. My goal with the Galactic Course is to eventually cover every single aspect of astrophotography, all in one place.

I want you to understand what you’re doing, from setting up your equipment to processing your final image. That means explaining the steps, why they matter, and what to look for in your own results.

I also strongly believe that knowing a lot about a subject doesn’t automatically make you the best person to teach it. For some topics, I partner with instructors whose experience I admire and fully trust. That’s intentional. You should be learning from people who really understand what they’re teaching.

I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and to keep building a place where you can increase your knowledge about astronomy and astrophotography.
